Samantha Roehl graduates in May with a communication studies degree and a double minor in journalism and digital media engagement. She spent the last four years heavily involved in the Cherry Pantry, running the social media and writing weekly newsletters. She is also Editor-in-Chief of REFINE Magazine, an independent women’s lifestyle magazine on campus.
Annette Ditolvo, Senior Program Manager for Basic Need Support, writes “As a student worker, she has not only absorbed leadership over our communications but has been the inaugural founder of our weekly newsletter initiative, a crucial communication platform to relay important information about Cherry Pantry services to the shopper population, donors, and volunteers alike. Samantha outreaches to all who donate physical items to the pantry subsequently fostering our donor relations. Her approach to her work at the Cherry Pantry has struck the perfect balance between sensitive and empowering, which in turn has created a deep sense of community and belonging within the pantry community. In summary, whether you are a shopper, donor, interested peer, volunteer, faculty member, or staff member, if you have interacted with the program during Samantha's tenure, you have felt the positive impact that she has made with the program and undoubtedly will continue to make for years to come. Temple University is so lucky to have a student advocate who is leading the work on basic needs security on campus in a way that is directly making the lived experiences of Temple students better”.
