Office of the Dean of Students

Office of the Dean of Students

- CARE Team

- Cherry Pantry

The mission of the Dean of Students Office is to ENGAGE, DEVELOP, and RETAIN Temple University students. We provide holistic support, advocacy, and education, equipping students to succeed and thrive at Temple University. The Dean’s office provides assistance to students and their parents/families in an effort to ensure co-curricular learning and overall collegiate success. The office also responds to student emergency and crisis situations and serves as a resource to faculty and staff who have concerns about a student.

The Cherry Pantry is Temple University's food pantry, located in 224A in the Howard Gittis Student Center. The Cherry Pantry’s mission is to combat hunger in the Temple community by supplying nutritious emergency food while providing equal treatment to all who visit the pantry. The Cherry Pantry's vision is a Temple community where student success is not undermined by hunger.

The CARE Team (Crisis, Assessment, Response, Education) is comprised of diverse representatives from key student support offices across the University (ex. Tuttleman Counseling Services, Disability Resources and Services, TUPD, etc.). The members of the CARE Team meet weekly. Referrals to the CARE Team are coordinated through the Case Management Staff in the Dean of Students Office. The CARE Team will collect available information pertaining to the student and the situation from multiple sources in order to determine the most appropriate course of action. The CARE Team’s role is to determine effective strategies for addressing the concern and identifying the responsible parties for enacting those strategies.

*The CARE Team is not for emergencies. If there is an immediate threat to a student (either through self-harm or interpersonal violence) or the community, please call the Temple University Police Department at (215) 204-1234.

The Howard Gittis Student Center (HGSC) on our Main Campus and the Student Faculty Center (SFC) on our Health Science Center Campus, serve as “living rooms” and as community hubs for formal and informal interactions. Lounges and food service spaces, and a host of other fun spots including Game Room, Recreation, and Cinema programs add engaging opportunities for students and more.
