What Does it Mean to be a Recognized Student Organization (RSO)?

What are the minimum requirements for being a Recognized Student Organization?

RSO's must meet the following minimum requirements to continue to be an active group at Temple University:

  • Complete the Re-Registration Process annually during March/April
  • Have four members of the officer board complete the “Student Organization Administration Course” before the start of the Fall Semester.
  • Must have the following officer positions filled:
    • President
    • Vice President
    • Treasurer
    • Secretary
  • An updated constitution that includes the sections described in our “How to Write a Constitution” guide.
  • A full-time faculty/staff member to serve as the organization’s Advisor.
  • Have at least 10 Active Members.
What is Re-Registration proccess?

Re-registration is a mandatory requirement for all recognized student organizations at Temple University. This process typically takes place during March & April.

Any group of students that meets regularly, elects officers, collects dues, or produces/sponsors a program, or functions in other ways consistent with the functions of an organization, is required to seek official approval through the re-registration process. Registration is a means by which student organizations may receive standard privileges grants when certain minimum requirements are met.

What is the Student Organization Administration Course?

The "Student Organization Administration Course" is a series of modules that train student organization officers on how to administratively function on Temple University's campus. The following officers are responsible for completing the course:

  • President
  • Vice President
  • Treasurer
  • Secretary
  • ***STARS Coordinator***
    • Only required if your organization has this position.

To request access to the Student Organization Administration Course, please fill out the request form on OwlConnect. This will be accessible the first three weeks of each semester for returning and new student organizations.

Student Organizations have  to complete the course with 90% or higher.
