Temple Residential Life builds a community that supports the Success Of All Residents. As a resident within our halls, you will experience different types of programs and events facilitated by the staff, including the Resident Assistants (RAs), Peer Mentors (PMs), Resident Coordinators (RCs), and Resident Directors (RDs), as well as your peers through Community Councils and the Residence Hall Association (RHA).

Learning Goal #1: Self Exploration

SELF EXPLORATION
Students will be able to:

  • Interpret how their experiences impact their perspective
  • Accurately describe themselves to others
  • Make informed decisions
  • Demonstrate self-reliance

During their time as Temple University residents, students have the opportunity to develop their own identity through self-exploration. By engaging in multiple communities and challenging themselves to reflect on how their experiences impact their perspective, students will be able to think critically about their personal values and articulate them to others. Through active reflection and personal development, students will transition from their residential experience with the tools to live independently.

Learning Goal #2: Relationship Development

RELATIONSHIP DEVELOPMENT
Students will be able to:

  • Identify characteristics of healthy relationships
  • Effectively utilize communication strategies
  • Develop healthy connections with others
  • Continually reevaluate their impact on communities

During their time as Temple University residents, students have the opportunity to establish connections with the intention of developing meaningful relationships. These connections will thrive as students learn how to communicate with an active voice and develop interpersonal skills to support themselves and others. Within their communities, students will be able to develop safe relationships in which they understand the impact of positive interactions. Students will transition from their residential experience with the tools to establish and reflect upon their relationships with others and their community.

Students will be able to:

  • Articulate their identities
  • Effectively communicate across difference
  • Evaluate how social structures impact communities
  • Develop more equitable communities

During their time as Temple University residents, students have the opportunity to identify qualities that make them unique and how to use those traits to positively impact their environment. By engaging and communicating with others from different backgrounds, students will be able to recognize varying perspectives and identities. Through these dialogues and interactions, students will learn how to recognize unequal treatment and limited opportunity for specific social identities. Students will transition from their residential experience with the ability to make an impact on their future communities by standing up for others and holding people accountable.
