Break Housing

Need to stay on campus during a break period? On-campus residents have the option of requesting to stay in their housing assignment during the following break periods:

  1. Fall Break
  2. Winter Break ($300 fee)
  3. Spring Break

All residence halls are open during all break periods. There will be an RA on duty for each break and all policies (including the Guest Policy) are still in effect.

Additionally, if you need some extra time at the end of each semester to leave campus or move out, you can submit and End-of-Fall or End-of-Spring Extension Request and stay in your room for an extra night at no additional cost.

For more information about break periods, please see the menus below and the additional pages for each break.

  • Close and lock all doors and windows.

Health and Safety Inspections

Residential Life staff are permitted to access all residential spaces during break periods for University-related business, including maintenance repairs and health & safety inspections.

What is a Health and Safety Inspection?
The Health and Safety Inspection is a procedure Residence Life staff complete for each break. The inspection involves ensuring the safety of housing facilities, including all bedrooms. You do not need to have anyone present in the space for the inspections to occur - if no one is home, a professional staff member accompanied by an RA will key into your space.

What Should I Expect?

  1. A 1/2 sheet inspection paper will be placed on your door. Please do not remove this.
  2. Inspections do not open drawers or cabinets. This check is to ensure each room is abiding by fire code, and is reasonable safe and clean to live in, and ready for Spring Break.
  3. Students with violations will be documented for any violation as detailed in the Community Living Standards.
