The 1940 Residence Hall is a 5-story, suite style building housing first-year students.  1940 sits right on Liacouras Walk, and houses approximately 472 students in 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom suites that are assigned 2 or 4-persons respectively.  There are no single spaces in the building - everyone has a roommate.  Each suite has its own bathrom for its occupants to share.  All spaces are heated and air conditioned, and students have controls in the room to raise or lower the termperature within a set range.

The building features multiple lounge and study spaces on each floor for group gatherings and extra study space.  Also included throughout the building are laundry rooms, bike rooms, and TV/game spaces.  A community kitchen is located on the ground floor.
